Rediscover your smile with dental implants

Dental implants are an incredibly versatile and efficient tooth replacement option, meeting a variety of needs: from filling a single tooth gap with one implant to stabilising a loose denture with two. For a complete smile restoration, multiple implants can replace all teeth on an arch. Their flexibility makes them a popular option for patients who have lost their natural teeth.

At My E20 Dentist, we use top-tier implant systems sourced from renowned names such as Sweden and Martina, Bredent, and Megagen. Our goal is to deliver enduring and seamlessly natural results for patients in Stratford, East Village, and beyond.

How do dental implants work?

Dental implant treatment, a minor surgical procedure performed under local anaesthesia, consists of two parts, often spanning multiple appointments. Firstly, a titanium artificial root replaces the missing tooth's root, bonding with the jawbone over time. Secondly, a custom-made false tooth, or restoration, is attached to the dental implant root. Typically, we wait three to six months for full implant healing before placing the new tooth.

For single-tooth replacements, a crown matching existing teeth is crafted. For those with full dentures, four to six dental implant roots can support the set, eliminating the need for an implant root for each missing tooth.

All-on-4 at My E20 Dentist

We’re proud to offer our patients the revolutionary All-on-4 dental implant treatment here in London’s E20.

The All-on-4 method uses four strategically positioned dental implants to anchor a complete set of artificial teeth in the jaw, eliminating the need for individual screws.

This innovative approach harnesses cutting-edge 3D technology and surgical planning software. All-on-4 implants are an excellent option for patients with multiple missing teeth seeking a stable prosthetic solution that closely mimics natural teeth in both function and appearance.

Implant retained dentures

Implant retained dentures can be an effective solution for patients who struggle with traditional dentures. They involve attaching dentures to dental implants surgically placed in the jawbone. The dentures are securely anchored to the implants, offering increased comfort, stability, and functionality. This approach prevents issues like slipping, shifting, or discomfort allowing wearers to confidently eat, speak, and smile without worry.

Implant retained bridges

For a fixed solution to missing teeth, implant retained bridges may be a good option. Unlike traditional bridges, which rely on adjacent natural teeth for support, implant retained bridges are anchored in place by dental implants surgically placed into the jawbone. They also help preserve the health of adjacent teeth by eliminating the need to alter them for support.

Bone augmentation for dental implant support

Bone augmentation, also known as bone grating, is sometimes necessary to enhance the strength and structure of your jawbone, to support dental implants with confidence. During the procedure, we carefully add extra bone material to areas where it's needed, ensuring a sturdy foundation for your implants.

Whether we're using bone from your own body, donor tissue, or synthetic options, the aim is to bolster your jawbone's density and volume.

Fast, comfortable digital scanning with CBCT

With our investment in state-of-the-art CBCT scanning technology at our London clinic, we ensure precise and reliable dental implant treatment.

Cone Beam CT scanning, a non-invasive and rapid dental imaging technique, aids your dentist in meticulously planning your treatment. Offering a more comprehensive view of your oral structure compared to traditional X-rays, this specialised 3D scanner allows for a complete evaluation of your teeth, bone, and soft tissue. Its advanced capabilities are particularly helpful for meticulously planning intricate dental procedures such as implants and extractions.

Frequently asked questions

about dental implants at My E20 Dentist
Who is a candidate for dental implants?

Most people with good oral health and sufficient bone density in the jaw are candidates for dental implants. However, a thorough examination by our oral surgeon in London’s E20 will determine your eligibility and help us to determine the most suitable restorative dental treatment for you.

How long do dental implants last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime. They are designed to be a permanent solution for missing teeth. Dental implants require the same care as natural teeth, including regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups. Maintaining good oral hygiene and avoiding habits like smoking can help prolong the life of dental implants.

Is the dental implant procedure painful?

The dental implant procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia, so patients may feel some pressure. After the procedure, some discomfort or swelling may occur, but it can be managed with pain medication prescribed by your dentist.

Are dental implants expensive?

Dental implants can vary depending on factors such as the number of implants needed, the type of restoration, and any additional procedures required (such as bone grafting). While dental implants may have a higher upfront cost compared to other tooth replacement options, they are considered a long-term investment in oral health and quality of life. If implants are appropriate for you, a full treatment plan will be developed together with an estimate of the costs of providing the treatment. At My E20 Dentist we offer a comprehensive payment plan, to help spread the cost of your treatment.

Can I spread the cost of my treatment?

We offer 0% APR payment plans for treatments over £1000. You can spread the cost over up to 12 months, making it easier to manage your dental care expenses. Speak to one of our team members for further information.

What happens step by step during dental implant treatment?

Your journey starts with a consultation, where Dr Nistor examines your mouth, takes a CBCT 3D scan, and plans your treatment in detail. The next stage is the surgery itself, where the titanium implant is placed into your jawbone under local anaesthetic. You'll then go through a healing period of 3 to 6 months, during which the implant fuses with your bone. Once that's complete, your custom crown, bridge, or denture is fitted, and your smile is restored. Throughout the process, Dr Nistor will keep in regular contact and check on your progress.

How long does the whole process take?

From consultation to finished smile, dental implant treatment usually takes between 3 and 6 months for straightforward cases. Cases that need bone grafting or sinus lifting can take 6 to 9 months in total, because the bone needs to integrate before the implant goes in. Dr Nistor will give you a clear timeline at your consultation.

How long is the actual surgery?

A single implant placement usually takes around 30 to 60 minutes under local anaesthetic. More complex cases involving multiple implants, bone grafting, or full arch treatment can take 1 to 3 hours. Most patients are surprised by how comfortable and straightforward the surgery actually feels.

What are the risks of dental implant treatment?

Implant treatment is one of the most reliable and well-established procedures in dentistry, with success rates above 95%. That said, there are some risks worth being aware of. Possible complications include infection at the implant site, minor nerve sensitivity (rare), implant rejection (uncommon), or in the upper jaw, occasional sinus issues if a sinus lift is needed. Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes can also affect healing. Dr Nistor will go through every risk in detail at your consultation, and use CBCT 3D imaging to plan your treatment as precisely as possible to minimise them.

What is recovery like after implant surgery?

Most patients are back to normal day-to-day activities within 24 to 48 hours of surgery. Some swelling, mild discomfort, and bruising are normal for the first few days, all of which respond well to over-the-counter pain relief. You'll need to stick to soft foods for a week or two, avoid smoking, and follow a careful brushing routine around the surgical site. Dr Nistor will check on your healing at follow-up appointments throughout the process.

What if I don't have enough bone for an implant?

This is more common than people think, especially if a tooth has been missing for some time, since the jawbone shrinks once it's no longer being stimulated. Dr Nistor is highly experienced in bone augmentation (adding bone material to strengthen the area before the implant goes in) and sinus lifting (creating space in the upper jaw). These techniques mean implants can be placed in many cases that other practices might turn away or refer elsewhere.

Will my implant look natural?

Yes. Implant crowns are made specifically for your mouth, matched to the shape, size, and colour of your other teeth. Most patients say they can't tell the difference once treatment is complete, and neither can the people around them.

How do I look after my implants?

Day to day, look after your implants exactly the same way as natural teeth. Brush twice a day, floss daily (or use interdental brushes around the implant), and keep up with regular check-ups and hygiene appointments. Avoiding smoking is particularly important, as it significantly affects long-term implant health. With good care, implants can last decades.

Are implants better than a bridge or dentures?

It depends on your situation, but for most patients implants are the closest thing to natural teeth. Unlike a traditional bridge, they don't rely on the neighbouring teeth for support, and unlike dentures, they're fixed in place and don't slip or feel uncomfortable. They also preserve the jawbone underneath, which dentures and bridges don't. The trade-off is that they take longer and cost more upfront. Dr Nistor will talk you through all your options at your consultation.

What happens if an implant fails?

Implant failure is rare (around 5% over the long term), but if it does happen, it's almost always resolvable. The implant is gently removed, the area allowed to heal, and a new implant can often be placed once it's ready. Dr Nistor will explain the warning signs to look out for, although in most cases regular check-ups will spot any issue early.
