Restore your smile with dentures

Dentures are custom-crafted, removable prosthetics that help you maintain good oral care, stepping in when your natural teeth falter.

They're not just about looks; they're all about function, too, giving you back the bite and speech you've been missing. Whether you need a full set or single dentures to fill in gaps, dentures blend seamlessly into your natural look.

The advantages of dentures

If you have one or more missing teeth, dentures provide a secure, efficient, and durable solution. Dentures are a popular choice for our patients who are looking for an alternative to fixed dental implants and they have numerous benefits.

Improved appearance

By filling in gaps left by missing teeth, dentures can enhance your smile and facial aesthetics.

Replacement for damaged teeth

Dentures provide a solution for patients with damaged or missing teeth, restoring dental integrity.

Preservation of facial structure

Dentures help maintain the natural contours of your face by supporting lips and cheeks, preventing sagging.

Comfort and convenience

Custom-fitted dentures like those offered at My E20 Dentist offer comfort and ease of use, allowing for natural speech and eating habits.

Boost in confidence

With a natural-looking smile, dentures can significantly boost your self-esteem and confidence in your appearance.

Are dentures right for you?

For many patients, dentures offer a comfortable, effective, and budget-friendly solution for missing teeth. However, there are a few things to consider before deciding whether dentures are right for you.

  • Getting used to dentures might take a little while. It’s normal to experience some soreness, irritation, or even find it tricky to speak or eat at first.
  • Good oral habits are a must. Just like natural teeth, dentures need daily cleaning with a soft brush and denture cleaner to keep them sparkling.
  • Changes happen over time. As your mouth shape naturally shifts, your dentures might need to be adjusted or replaced, to maintain a perfect fit.

During your initial consultation at My E20 Dentist our team will help you weigh up the pros and cons, discuss alternative treatment options for missing teeth and determine the best course of action for your oral health needs.

Frequently asked questions

about dentures at My E20 Dentist
How long does it take to get used to dentures?

Adapting to dentures can vary for each patient, but it generally takes several weeks to months to adjust fully.

How do I care for my dentures?

Dentures require regular cleaning with a soft-bristled brush and denture cleaner, along with proper storage in water or solution when not in use. Regular dental check-ups at My E20 Dentist are also important to ensure proper fit and function.

Will dentures affect my ability to eat and speak?

Initially, wearing dentures may impact eating and speaking, but with time and practice, most individuals adapt and regain normal function. We recommend starting with soft foods, introducing harder, chewier foods over time, as your confidence in wearing dentures grows.

How long do dentures last?

The lifespan of dentures varies depending on factors such as oral hygiene, wear and tear, and changes in the mouth's structure. On average, dentures may last 5 to 10 years before requiring replacement or adjustment.

Can I spread the cost of my treatment?

We offer 0% APR payment plans for treatments over £1000. You can spread the cost over up to 12 months, making it easier to manage your dental care expenses. Speak to one of our team members for further information.

What happens during the denture process from start to finish?

Most dentures are made over 4 to 5 appointments across a few weeks. Your first visit is the consultation, where your dentist examines your mouth and discusses what would work best for you. Impressions are then taken so the lab can make your dentures to fit precisely. There's usually a try-in stage where you check how they look and feel before they're finalised, followed by the fitting appointment. A short follow-up appointment a few weeks later allows for any small adjustments once you've worn them in.

How long does each denture appointment take?

Most appointments last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the stage. The first consultation is usually around 60 minutes to allow time for examination, impressions, and a proper conversation about your options.

How much do dentures cost?

The cost depends on the type of denture chosen (partial, full, acrylic, chrome, or implant-retained) and the materials used. You'll receive a clear, written quote at your consultation, and 0% finance is available for treatment over £1,000 to help spread the cost.

What's the difference between full and partial dentures?

Full dentures replace all of your teeth in either the upper or lower jaw (or both), and rest on the gums, held in place by suction and sometimes denture adhesive. Partial dentures fill in the gaps where you're missing some teeth, clipping or attaching to your remaining natural teeth for support. Your dentist will recommend the right option for your case at your consultation.

What are implant-retained dentures?

Implant-retained dentures clip onto a small number of dental implants placed in your jaw. They're far more stable than traditional dentures (no slipping or sore spots), preserve the jawbone underneath, and feel much closer to having natural teeth. They cost more upfront but offer a significant step up in comfort and function. If this is something you're interested in, Dr Nistor, our oral surgeon and implant clinician, can talk you through the options at your consultation.

What are the risks and downsides of dentures?

Dentures are a safe, well-established option for replacing missing teeth, but there are a few things worth knowing. The first few weeks involve a real adjustment period, with possible soreness, changes to speech, and difficulty eating certain foods. Without dental implants underneath, the jawbone gradually shrinks over time (as it's no longer being stimulated by tooth roots), which is why dentures need adjusting or replacing every 5 to 10 years to keep them fitting properly. Some patients find them slightly less stable than they'd like, particularly lower dentures, which is where implant-retained options can help.

How do I look after my dentures day to day?

Take your dentures out every night to give your gums a rest, and store them in water or a denture solution. Clean them daily with a soft brush and denture cleaner (not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive). Continue to brush your gums and tongue with a soft toothbrush morning and night, and keep up with regular check-ups so your dentist can spot any issues with fit early.

What should I do if my dentures stop fitting properly?

This is normal over time as your gums and jawbone change shape. Get in touch and we'll book you in for a relining (where the underside of the denture is reshaped to fit your mouth properly), or in some cases a new set will be needed. Don't try to adjust them yourself, as this can make the problem worse.

Are dentures better than dental implants?

It depends entirely on your situation. Dentures are quicker to make, more affordable upfront, and don't involve surgery. Implants take longer (3 to 6 months) and are a bigger upfront investment, but feel and function much closer to natural teeth, last decades with proper care, and preserve the jawbone over time. Many of our patients find a middle ground with implant-retained dentures, getting the best of both. Your dentist will talk you through all the options at your consultation.
