These nearly invisible aligners are clear and comfortable, and designed for efficient and effective tooth movement, delivering exceptional results. How do Spark clear aligners work?

Spark clear aligners are crafted from high-quality plastic and rest almost invisibly on your teeth, gently guiding them into the desired position. Gradually, you will switch to a new aligner in your series, ensuring continuous movement of your teeth in the right direction. This process allows your treatment to advance with fewer in-practice appointments.

Frequently asked questions

about Spark aligners at My E20 Dentist
How long does treatment with Spark aligners take?

The duration of treatment with Spark aligners varies based on the complexity of the case. On average, treatment can last from several months to over a year. Your specialist orthodontist at My E20 Dentist will provide a personalised treatment plan and timeline.

Are Spark aligners suitable for all ages?

Yes, Spark aligners are suitable for both teenagers and adults who want to straighten their teeth. However, the suitability of treatment depends on your individual dental needs, which your orthodontist will assess during your initial consultation at our London practice.

Will wearing clear aligners affect my speech?

Most people adjust to wearing their Spark aligners quickly and experience minimal impact on their speech. Any initial difficulty in speaking typically improves within a few days as you get used to wearing them.

Can I eat and drink while wearing Spark aligners?

It's recommended to remove your aligners while eating and drinking anything besides water to prevent damage or staining. Remember to brush your teeth before reinserting the aligners to keep up with your good oral hygiene.

How do I clean my aligners?

Cleaning Spark aligners is simple. Rinse them with lukewarm water every time you remove them and gently brush them with a soft toothbrush using a mild soap. Avoid using hot water or toothpaste, as they can damage the aligners.

Can I spread the cost of my treatment?

We offer 0% APR payment plans for treatments over £1000. You can spread the cost over up to 12 months, making it easier to manage your dental care expenses. Speak to one of our team members for further information.

What happens at my Spark aligners consultation?

Your consultation is a relaxed conversation with Dr Negulescu about what you'd like to change. She'll examine your teeth and bite, take a digital scan to plan your treatment, and talk you through whether Spark is the best option for your case. If you decide to go ahead, you'll see a digital preview of what your finished smile will look like before any treatment begins.

What's the treatment journey from start to finish?

After your consultation, your aligners are made specifically for you and arrive in a series. You'll change to a new set every 1 to 2 weeks as your teeth gradually move into their new position. You'll come back to the practice every 6 to 8 weeks so Dr Negulescu can check progress and make sure everything's on track. Once treatment is complete, you'll be fitted with retainers to keep your new smile in place.

How many hours a day do I need to wear my aligners?

For Spark aligners to work properly, they need to be worn for at least 20 to 22 hours a day. That means taking them out only to eat, drink (anything other than water), and clean your teeth. Less than this and treatment can slow down or stall, so consistency really matters.

Will I need attachments on my teeth?

Often, yes. Attachments are small tooth-coloured shapes bonded to a few of your teeth that help the aligners grip and move your teeth more precisely. They're almost invisible, don't affect daily life, and are removed at the end of treatment. Dr Negulescu will explain whether you'll need them at your consultation.

What are the risks of Spark aligners?

Spark aligners are very safe and well-tolerated, but there are a few things to be aware of. Some patients experience mild tooth sensitivity, particularly in the first few days after switching to a new set, as the teeth respond to the gentle pressure. Mild speech changes can happen at first and quickly settle as your mouth adjusts. The biggest risk is not wearing the aligners enough, which can lengthen treatment time or affect the result. Dr Negulescu will go through everything in detail at your consultation.

What's the difference between Spark and Invisalign?

Both are excellent clear aligner systems that produce great results. Spark uses TruGEN material, which is designed to stay clearer for longer (Invisalign aligners can yellow slightly over time) and has a smoother, more comfortable edge. Invisalign has been on the market longer and has a wider range of features for complex cases. Dr Negulescu will recommend the system best suited to your case at your consultation.

Will I need retainers after treatment?

Yes. Retainers are essential after any orthodontic treatment because teeth naturally want to drift back towards their original position. Most patients have a fixed wire bonded behind the front teeth, a removable retainer to wear at night, or both. Dr Negulescu will recommend the right retainer plan for you and talk you through how often to wear them.

Will my aligners hurt?

No, but some pressure is normal. Most patients describe a feeling of tightness or mild ache for the first day or two after starting a new aligner in the series, which is the gentle pressure that's moving your teeth. It settles quickly, and most people barely notice it after the first few weeks.

What if my teeth aren't quite right at the end of treatment?

If your teeth don't end up exactly where they should, Dr Negulescu can plan a short course of refinement aligners to fine-tune the final result. This is included in most of our treatment plans and is a normal part of getting clear aligner results just right.
